IN THIS LESSON

So far we have covered the ‘typical’ stages or aspects of a person’s life. But not everyone’s life is the same. In this Lesson we are going to look at aspects of your life that may not have been covered so far in this course. Inserting these into the appropriate time in your life will make your story more complete.

What other aspects of your life have not been covered yet? Some suggestions have been listed below. Although common to some, they are not common to all. The stage(s) at which these occurred will generally differ for everyone too. For these reasons thisLesson is to be treated differently to the rest. Consider each of the following-

o   What is relevant to your life? Write about these.

o   At what stage(s) in your life are these most relevant? Add into the appropriate stage.

Health issues- have you experienced any significant health issues? When? How has this affected your life? Are there any genetic issues that need to be shared with your future generations?

Significant event(s) in your life- apart from health issues this may include a serious accident, a natural disaster, a significant world event, war service, a life changing experience. When did this occur? How did it change your life?

Religion- Are you a religious person? Has this been the case for most of your life? How has your faith affected how you lived?

Culture/immigration- What is your cultural background? What brought your family to Australia? Introduce your culture near the beginning of your story in ‘birth and background’. Then throughout the different stages of your life include how you culture influenced these stages. If you grew up in another country, it’s important to include some good detail so as to share your culture with your future generations who are growing up in Australia. If you migrated, share your experience of your journey to Australia and you first impressions of Australia. How did you integrate?

Dealing with death- Death is part of life. The loss of every loved one brings sadness and often despair. Have you lost a parent, spouse, child, sibling or friend? Describe your experience. How did their loss impact your life? Incorporate these memories in the appropriate stages of your life.

It’s now time to start working on your next worksheet. Click below to download your worksheet and answer the questions. Remember- key words, dot points or short sentences first as we gather the information you will need to write your story.

Did you identify with one or more of these 'Other' topics?

Briefly share one of these.

Where does this fit into your life story?

Now move onto the next lesson.
