Are Photo Albums Still Relevant Today?
Are photo albums still relevant today? Afterall we are now living in a digital age; our photos are on our phones, and our phones are on us almost 24/7.
If we have opted to remain digital, here are some things to consider:
- Are you confident that the photos on your phone are backed up? What if you lost or damaged your phone?
- If you have backed up digital photos in the past, do you know where the backups are? Can you still open these backups or has technology changed?
- If your child asked to see a photo of themselves at a specified event 10 years ago, how long would it take you to find the photo(s)?
- Are your digital photos organised in digital albums?
- How often do you look at digital photos from last year, from five years ago, from ten years ago?
- Have your children or grandchildren seen photos of themselves as babies or toddlers?
It is quite common these days for children to grow up without a physical photo album. They see the photos of today, they may see random photos of themselves in their past, but they don’t see their story. They don’t see a steady progression of themselves growing and changing from baby to child to adult. They can’t read those precious messages and captions lovingly recorded next to the photos.
Why is it important to look through a photo album?
Photos prompt memories of those special days.
Photos preserve memories of loved ones who were once in our lives but are no longer with us.
Photos remind us of what we have achieved and how much we are loved. This is so important went life gets tough.
I have never seen someone look through an album and not smile. Albums certainly bring joy.
